The Coleman family has had a strong influence on the company with the current Chairman’s grandfather starting the company and his father (the previous Chairman) also playing an active role.
Under the current Chairman Paul Coleman’s guidance, it has flourished by specialising in supplying corrugated packaging to the shoe and knitwear trades throughout the Midlands.
The business moved to Birstall in the mid-80s where it remained until 2003 when it moved to Silverdale Drive. The continued growth of Nelsons meant that in 2008 we moved again to our current premises of 50,000 square feet in The Woodlands, Thurmaston.
The current MD, Gary Mason, joined in 2002 taking the controlling shares in Nelson's. Gary has taken the business in a new direction. With the shoe and knitwear trades dying out, it became clear that the future of the business lay in other areas.
Nelsons targeted bespoke work in industrial and food packaging and the business has been rewarded with huge success. Nelsons is now a multi-million-pound packaging company and a serious player in today’s competitive marketplace. Over the past three years Nelsons has become a leading supplier of shelf-ready packaging. Our packs can be seen in the likes of Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury’s as well as in DIY stores such as Wilkinson and B&Q.
In 2008 Nelson's moved to its current site, a 12,000 pallet storage distribution centre, to keep up with its continuing growth and enable us to offer a flexible next day delivery service.
However Nelsons is aware of its roots and key family values, such as honesty, loyality and integrity remain. Several of the Coleman family are still involved in the business alongside the Mason family who now proudly take its place in the Nelson's history files... The Past... The Present... The Future.
